Digital Coating Thickness Gauge – ElcoTest ®

Our new high specification Coating thickness Gauge is the ultimate tool for measuring the thickness of paint, the thickness of coatings and the thickness of powder coatings on all types of metal substrates in the field of coatings inspection equipment and supply a range of quality inspection equipment.

The gauge will measure coatings on ferrous (iron, steel) and non-ferrous substrates (aluminium). The gauge will sense the substrate under the coating and will switch automatically to the ferrous or non-ferrous measurement setting.

 

The gauge can be easily switched to measure and display readings in either in metric or imperial units of measurement.

The gauge has a “flip” function that allows the user to turn the gauge through 180 degrees so that it can be used upside down for ease of reading at different angles.

Dustiness tape also known as dust tape test kit or dust evaluation kit is recommended tape and magnifier to be used for assessing the amount of dust on blasted steel surfaces, which have been prepared for painting. It is also known as test for assessment of surface cleanliness.

Dustiness tapes provide pictorial ratings for the assessment of the average quantity of dust as well as descriptive classes for the assessment of the ave rage size of the dust particles.

The method is based on pressing a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape on to the steel surface to be tested. Dust evaluation tapes are used to carry as a "pass/fail" test by comparison with specific limits or by permanently recording the dust present on a surface by mounting the tapes.

The tape is pressure sensitive, transparent and correct adhesive strength greater than 190 N / meter to comply with the standard ISO 8502-3. Dust on blast cleaned steel surfaces may reduce the adhesion of applied coatings and by absorbing moisture, may promote the corrosion of the blast cleaned steel. Both the viewing lens and tape are detailed in the ISO 8502-3 standard. This being a visual method of evaluation it is very easy and useful test.

The importance of dustiness tape evaluation is also specified in ISO 8501-1 for preparation of steel substrates before application of paints and related products. Tape length is supplied in 60 meters rolls.complete dust tape test kit is supplied along with tape, chart and magnifier.

Bresle Patch for Bresle Kit

 

The TQC Bresle Patch is used to test surfaces in accordance with ISO 8502-6 and ISO 8502-9, which specify tests using TQC Bresle Patches as the Bresle Method of extracting the soluble salts from the test surfaces. The TQC Bresle Patch from the TQC Bresle KIT is adhered to the test surface and distilled water is pumped into the Bresle Patch using a syringe. The water is flushed between the TQC Bresle Patch and the substrate, which causes the soluble salts on the test surface to be dissolved into the water.

Important with this Bresle Method is that all distilled water with dilluted salts is retrieved from the Patches. Obviousely any leakage of the solution from the TQC Bresle Patch during pumping and flushing will cause the final result, that is measured with a conductivity gauge, to be inaccurate. Therefore the ISO 8502-6 Bresle Method states that the Patch must be able to resist a certain amount of inflation without leaking the dilluted salt solution.

Other inaccuracy issues may arrise when Patches are contaminated during production by using inferior materials or because of contaminated production facilities. The TQC Bresle Patch is garanteed free from any contamination as all patches are made of high class materials that are washed prior to manufacturing and produced in a contamination free production facility. All TQC Bresle Patches come with a declaration of conformity and an ISO 17025 accredited test laboratory certificate can be supplied on request.

Inside the TQC Bresle Kit - Chloride Test Kit is a conductivity gauge used for the assessment of soluble salt ions as chlorides, sulphates and nitrates. The Bresle Method described in the ISO 8502-6 and ISO 8502-9 standard, states that the conductivity is mainly directly proportional to the concentration of dissolved chloride ions in the solution.

Contamination of blast-media:
The TQC Bresle Kit - Chloride Test Kit can also be used to determine the contamination of blast-media in use. A too high level of salts in the recycled abrasive media or water can re-contaminate the surface being cleaned. Two standards ISO 11127-6 and ISO 11127-7 describe the determination of water-soluble contaminants by conductivity measurement and the determination of water-soluble chlorides.

Analogue Surface Profile Gauge

The Analog Surface Profile Gauge will allow the peak to valley height of blast-cleaned surfaces to be accurately measured in accordance with the ASTM D-4417 Method B standard. The gauge is important tool in assessment of degree surface preparation or surface cleanliness before painting.

The gauge is initially set to zero with the glass zero plate. The needle touches the glass plate and the foot is then placed on the blasted profile. The foot sits on top of the peaks and the sharp stylus travels to the bottom of the valley, allowing the gauge to display the peak to valley height. Conical mandrel test is also known as standard method for assessing the flexibility and the adhesion properties of coatings when these are subjected to bending stresses This is accomplished by bending the test material around a conically shaped metal bar. The conical mandrel bending test is a commonly used for testing for painted or coated panels.

Conical Mandrel Bend Tester is widely recommended to test the resistance of a paint, coating, varnish to evaluate cracking or detachment from a metal panel. It is suitable for use with metal panels up to 0.8mm thick (flexible substrates up to 5mm thickness) e.g. polythenes or synthetic rubber. The apparatus consists of a steel mandrel 203mm in length and tapering from 38mm to 3mm in diameter. It will accommodate test panels up to 19cm x 11cm in size. A graduated scale on the clamping bar indicates the mandrel diameter at which failure has occurred. When this diameter is added to the thickness of the panel used, the percentage elongation can be calculated. Conical mandrel detects common failures of coating shows cracking or flaking after bending. Can be used in accordance with DIN ISO EN 6860, ASTM D 522, BS 3900 E11, DIN 53150
